-
- GENERAL INFORMATION
- The Glasair FT is a 2-seat composite homebuilt aircraft.
- which has been on the market since 1979. In 1981, the Glasair
- won EAA's "Outstanding New Design" Award at Oshkosh.
- It is constructed from a kit of preformed composite shells
- made in female molds. There are options for a variety of powerplants,
- with slightly varying performance for the 3 models offered:
- (FT=Fixed-gear Trigear, RG=Retractable Gear, TD=Tail Dragger).
- For the 180 hp FT model, typical performance is:
- (Note: data may not reflect current models offered by Stoddard-Hamilton,
- but are quoted from a brochure dated 1984)
- Top Speed (mph @ Sea Level) 238
- Cruise:
- 75% @ sea level 214
- 75% @ 8000 ft. 231
- 65% @ 8000 ft. 204
- 55% @ 8000 ft. 185
- Rate of Climb (ft/min):
- Solo 2700
- Gross 1700
- Stall Speeds (mph):
- Clean Solo 63
- Flaps On/Solo 58
- Flaps On/Gross 62
- Recommended Glide Speed 90
- (mph w/engine out)
- Best Rate of Climb Speed (mph) 110
- Best Angle of Climb (mph) 75
- Approach Speeds (mph) 75
- Range (miles) @ 55% (approx.) 1000
- With Tip tanks 1400
- Roll Rate (degrees/sec) 130
- Fuel Efficiency/Speed (mpg/mph) 28/200
- (Performance using a constant speed prop)
-

-
- FLYING:
- I was not able to duplicate (in AAF/ASD) the high performance
- of the real plane using the Experimental Aircraft flight model
- provided by Aircraft & Scenery Designer. Performance is slower
- in spite of having reduced the drag parameters to minimums. In
- order to compensate, I have increased the power in the AAF model
- to 250 to provide higher performance, but still not equal to the
- real planes.
-
- LANDING:
- No special requirements. Throttle down to 25% throttle, drop
- flaps and make a full stall landing. If you drop power to 0%,
- the Glasair will sink like a rock, so maintain some power on
- landing. I prefer sensitive aircraft in FS4, and so some folks
- may find the Glasair a little "touchy", especially in pitch
- and roll. I like to fly with a ThrustMaster FCS or FCS Pro
- joystick, and set the sensitivity to maximum (4-E-B-8-ESC-ESC) for
- most planes. You may wish to compensate by lowering the
- sensitivity.
-
- MAX CRUISE:
- It may take some work to set up trim, but I have
- trimmed it for level flight at 10,000 ft and attained about
- 160 knots. The easiest way to do this is to set up Autopilot,
- and let it fly and stabilize to check top speed.
-
- AAF NOTES:
- Parts: 182
- MP: 152% (Not Multi-Player Compatible)
-
- NOTES:
- The dimensions of the plane were taken from drawings
- in literature obtained from Douglas Peterson, a Glasair
- builder and owner. Thanks very much Doug!
- Stoddard-Hamilton offers newer models of the Glasair
- including the Glasair IIs, and Glasair III. Contact
- Stoddard-Hamilton at the above address for more current
- information on models offered to the home-builder.

- DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
-
- Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
- before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
- using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
- differ on details -- some request registration while others
- require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
- registration of RUSSAIR, you get the most recent revision of
- the airplane files for use with Microsoft Flight Simulator 4.0b,
- and source code for use with Mallard's Aircraft and Adventure Factory.
-
- Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
- and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
- exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
- programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
- of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
- and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
- distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
- and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
- specific group. For example, some authors require written
- permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
- Shareware.
- Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
- should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
- whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
- fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
- And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
- has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
- product, you don't pay for it.
-
- DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT
-
- Users of RUSSAIR planes must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
- "RUSSAIR planes are supplied as is. The author disclaims all
- warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation,
- the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose.
- The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or conse-
- quential, which may result from the use of RUSSAIR planes."
-
- RUSSAIR is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge
- to the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your
- friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
- another system. The essence of "user-supported" software is to
- provide personal computer users with quality software without
- high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
- continue to develop new products. If you find these program files
- useful and find that you are using RUSSAIR planes and continue to use
- RUSSAIR after a reasonable trial period, you must make a reg-
- istration payment to Russell Mueller for each RUSSAIR set.
- The registration fee will license one copy of the collection for use
- on any one computer at any one time. You must treat this software just
- like a book. An example is that this software may be used by any
- number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
- location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
- being used at one location while it's being used at another.
- Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the
- same time.
-
-
- Anyone distributing RUSSAIR planes for any kind of remuneration must
- first contact Russell Mueller at the address below for authorization
- and licensing agreement.
-
- You are encouraged to pass a copy of RUSSAIR along to your
- friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their
- copy if they find that they can use it. All registered users
- will receive a copy of the latest version of the RUSSAIR
- system, software support via mail for 3 months
- from date of registration, and the source code for use with
- Mallard's Aircraft and Adventure Factory for modifying the
- planes for your own personal use. The planes may not be used
- in a commercial, shareware, or other retail program without
- a license from the author.

- The ASP Ombudsman can help you resolve a dispute or problem with an ASP
- member, but does not provide technical support for members' products.
- Please write to the ASP Ombudsman at 545 Grover Road, Muskegon, MI 49442
